Write that Essay/The W sentence & The 'ing' sentence

 The 'W' sentence

Makes the sentence sound thoughtful & knowledgeable.

Remember the rule: Not every 'W' word works as a sentence starter. Remember to put the comma in where the parts affected by your 'W' word are finished.

Examples: Who, While, Whereas, When, Where, What, Whilst, With.

Whilst the class was eating, I read my book.

Where you like chocolate, others prefer candy.

My examples:

What Toni said was unforgivable.

Toni laughed, whilst the others cried

Toni questioned who ate her ham and cheese sandwich.

Toni sat with her friends.

The 'ing' sentence

Use the - ing version of the verb. e.g to run - running.

Remember the rule: When you finish your -ing phrase, place a comma, then write the rest of the sentence.

Some -ing words: listening, watching, running, realising, emerging, grasping, speaking, analysing, signalling, exposing, gossiping, acknowledging.

Examples:

Realising the danger, people fled from the cities.

Shaking away the nerves, he walked towards the microphone.

Acknowledging the speaker, he bowed his head in silence.

MY examples:

Grasping for the rope, i finally manage to grab it.

Exposing her, ruined her reputation.

Emerging from the depths, there it was, the kracken.

Acknowledging that im at gunpoint, I surrender.

The Adverb sentence & The Prepostion sentence

Adverbs describe verbs, e.g Surprisingly, Firstly, Confusingly, Remarkably. Adverb sentence starters add interest or intrigue to our work.

Remember the ruleWhen you start a sentence with an adverb, place a comma after the adverb then write the rest of the sentence.

Examples: Accidentally, Shockingly, Concerningly, Excitedly, Significantly, Similarly, Unfortunately, Fortunately.

My own sentences:

Accidentally, Toni crashed her car into a truck.

Concernally, she survived even after the car blew up.

Thankfully, someone found her before she passed out.

Fortunately, Toni was taken to the hospital and her wounds were treated.

Similarly, the same thing happened to Toni's brother but he died.

Viciously, Toni attacked the drunk truck driver for not watching where he was driving.

The Preposition sentence:

Examples: In, Against, Between, Over, Behind, Within, Under, Below, At, For, Throughout, Near, About.

A preposition gives location or movement.

Remember the rule: When you start the sentence with a preposition, you need to put a comma when the movement or position ends.

Example sentences: In the beginning, we talked a lot.

Throughout the lesson, I tried not to fall asleep.

Near the basketball court, is the rubbish bin.

My own sentences:

Between when Toni's brother died and the present, Toni has never forgiven the truck driver.

In the end, Toni ended her grieving and got her life together.

Throughout everything that happened, Toni was happy but she still misses her brother.

STUDENT VOLUNTEER ARMY RESEARCH:

1. Who are Sam Johnson and Jason Pemberton?

Sam Johnson and Jason Pemberton founded a Volunteer Army foundation after the 2010 earthquakes in September, (VAF) was developed from the student clean-up movement.

2. Why was VAF group started?

It was created to address community needs in the recovery period of time of the Christchurch earthquakes.

3. How did they help the community?

They helped by cleaning up backyards on elderly people as they couldn't do it, they invited uni students who didn't have classes because of the earthquakes to volunteer and help clean up.

4. What obstacles did they overcome?

It was a difficult challenge to find where they were most needed after the earthquakes, but did manage to find and help clean those areas.

5. How did their work in Christchurch help people in Japan?

japan-bound USAR repayed chch workers in equipment and skills to finish tasks.

Something interesting that I found out about the Volunteer Army Research...

Was that they were really helpful to the community, and it just shows the kindness in people as the people in the group helped people for nothing in return.

Art - 2021

 What we did in Art:

First off we practised drawing manga and kowhaiwhai, we had to draw an art piece including manga and kowhaiwhai, first, we sketched it then we painted it. We were allowed to draw whatever only if it included those two art examples. My piece was split in half from the centre and drew two manga looking characters, one on the top and another one on the bottom, then I added in kowhaiwhai looking pieces to make it look interesting. At the start, we practised drawing different types of art examples, this was all in T1 (term one).

Next, we did another type of art. We made a frame out of thin cardboard, plastic and paper. On cubes of cardboard, we put all sorts of different colours to put on the plastic than paint on the paper with the colour covered plastic and make a colourful piece.

We also got lino and drew a practice design. Then we got to draw on a piece of paper what we want to do on the lino, we use not sharp but kinda sharp tools to carve into the lino to make the design.Linocut Artists and History — Linocut Artist | Boarding All RowsLino-Print Printmaking For Sale | Saatchi ArtAn Introduction Lino Printing
